Republic of Korea: Adopted Privacy by Design Certification for Home Security Cameras under pilot programme

On 21 April 2024, the Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) and the Korea Internet and Security Agency (KISA) granted the first certification under a Privacy by Design pilot certification program to a home security camera system developed by SK Shieldus. The certification process involved an evaluation and testing of four products, with SK Shieldus's 'CAPS Home InnerGuard' meeting all the criteria after vulnerabilities were addressed. This initiative aims to enhance the safety of personal information collection devices used in daily life, with detailed certification procedures and standards to be introduced for future applicants. Businesses interested in the 2024 pilot certification can apply between 24 April and 17 May 2024.
