United States of America: Introduced Child Exploitation and Artificial Intelligence Expert Commission Act of 2024 (HR 8005)

On 15 April 2024, the Child Exploitation and Artificial Intelligence Expert Commission Act of 2024 (HR 8005) was introduced to the House of Representatives of the United States. The Act aims to establish a commission tasked with investigating and making recommendations on solutions to improve the ability of law enforcement agencies to prevent, detect, and prosecute child exploitation crimes facilitated by artificial intelligence. Child exploitation crimes are defined as crimes under any federal, state, local, or tribal law relating to the sexual exploitation of children. The proposed Commission would investigate the use of AI in child exploitation crimes, evaluate the current legal framework's effectiveness in addressing such crimes, and recommend necessary changes to improve law enforcement's ability to address AI-generated child sexual abuse material (CSAM). The Commission would further submit interim and final reports to Congress containing findings and recommendations.
