United Kingdom: Established AI Safety Institute

On 2 November 2023, the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology established the AI Safety Institute. The AI Safety Institute originated from the UK’s Frontier AI Taskforce. Its task is to develop the socio-technical infrastructure to understand, assess, and manage the risks associated with advanced AI systems. It will be conducting evaluations on advanced AI systems to assess their safety, security, and societal impacts, driving foundational AI safety research. Furthermore, it will facilitate the exchange of information among policymakers, international partners, private companies, academia, and the public.
