On 10 April 2024, the Danish Agency for Digitisation was designated as the national supervisory authority for artificial intelligence (AI) in accordance with the European Union's regulation on artificial intelligence. This designation positions the Agency to oversee the application of artificial intelligence within Denmark, ensuring that AI technologies are used in a manner that is both beneficial and secure for society and businesses. The Agency's responsibilities will include coordinating with relevant Danish authorities and the European Commission, as well as with the newly established EU AI Office, with the objective of ensuring a harmonised approach to AI governance. The formal adoption of the EU AI Regulation is expected in the spring of 2024, with most rules coming into effect by 2026.
