Norway: Introduced Electronic Communications Act including registration requirement for data centers (Prop. 93 LS)

On 12 April 2024, the Ministry of Digitisation and Administration submitted the Electronic Communications Act, which mandates the registration of all data centres operating within the country, to the legislature of Norway. The Act requires data centres to register and provide details about their ownership, contact persons, and the digital services they offer, including those related to digital payment and cloud computing infrastructure. The Act aims to enhance the oversight of digital infrastructure providers and cryptocurrency operations, addressing concerns over greenhouse gas emissions linked to activities such as mining.
