The New Zealand Digital Identity Services Bill 2021 has been introduced in the New Zealand Parliament. The Bill provides for the establishment of an accreditation regime for digital identity service providers. Digital identity services are defined as services which allow users to share personal or organisational information as part of a transaction. While participation in the accreditation regime is not mandatory, participants will be able to use trust marks to identify the fact that they are providing accredited services. Certain rules will apply to accredited services, such as a restriction on the collection, use and sharing of personal or organisational information (s.11), as well as further rules, to be determined by the responsible Minister in cooperation with the Trust Framework board (ss.17-21). The accreditation regime will be established and administered by the Trust Framework Authority (ss.22-31).
