Brazil: Adopted AGU-Ciedde technical cooperation agreement to combat fake news and hate speech during the electoral period

On 3 April 2024, the Brazilian Integrated Center for Combating Disinformation and Defense of Democracy (Ciedde), the Federal Police, and the Attorney General's Office (AGU) adopted a technical cooperation agreement aimed at combating fake news and hate speech during election periods. In particular, the agreement aims to safeguard the electoral process from disinformation, deep fakes, and anti-democratic content. The agreement focuses on improving the regulation of artificial intelligence in the electoral sphere, combating disinformation, and ensuring the protection of voters' freedom of choice. Further, the agreement seeks to promote citizenship, democratic values, and digital rights with a focus on enhancing communication between various bodies, entities, and social media platforms to implement preventive actions effectively.
