On 3 April 2024, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) published the 2024-2025 Children's Code Strategy. The strategy specifies that ICO will prioritise supervision, enforcement, and engagement to ensure that social media and video-sharing platforms enhance their data protection measures and ensure the safety of children using their services. It outlines areas for improvement of the Code in the upcoming year, along with the ICO's plans to enforce the law and promote compliance with the code within the industry. These priority areas include enhancing default privacy and geolocation settings, prohibiting the profiling of children for targeted ads, and excluding the use of children's data in recommender systems. Finally, ICO stated that it would issue guidelines on measures to address harms resulting from children's data processing and determine the specific social media and video-sharing platforms that it should prioritise supervision and engagement.
