Vietnam: Issued report following inquiry into implementation of Decree No. 70/2021/ND-CP regulating online advertising

On 26 March 2024, the Authority of Broadcasting and Electronic Information (ABEI) issued a report including recommendations following an inquiry into the implementation of Decree No. 70/2021/ND-CP regulating online advertising. The inquiry assessed the effectiveness of the Blacklist and Whitelist systems in regulating online content. The Blacklist prevents ads from being placed on websites with legal violations, while the Whitelist encourages advertising on sites with clean content. The ABEI stated that the Blacklist was successful in reducing ads on problematic sites, but the Whitelist has seen limited use by businesses. The inquiry's findings support the need for expanded use of the Whitelist to improve content moderation and enhance the online advertising environment.
