Adopted UK-US Memorandum of Understanding on development of tests for advanced AI models

On 1 April 2024, the United States and the United Kingdom signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to enhance cooperation in the development and testing of artificial intelligence (AI) safety standards. This agreement, signed by US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo and UK Technology Secretary Michelle Donelan, follows commitments made at the AI Safety Summit in November. The partnership aims to align scientific approaches and accelerate the creation of robust evaluation suites for AI models, systems, and agents. Both countries' AI Safety Institutes will share information, cooperate closely, and exchange expert personnel to build a common approach to AI safety testing. The MOU takes effect immediately, with plans for at least one joint testing exercise and the intention to develop similar partnerships globally to promote AI safety.
