Italy: Issued AGCOM decision on Ceann Nua Limited (YouTube Originals) application for an exemption from the obligation to invest in European works

Description

Issued AGCOM decision on Ceann Nua Limited (YouTube Originals) application for an exemption from the obligation to invest in European works

On 24 January 2024, the Italian Communications Regulatory Authority (AGCOM) granted Ceann Nua Limited (YouTube Originals) an exemption from the requirement to invest in European works for the year 2023. This exemption is specifically for the "YouTube Originals" services offered to consumers in Italy. The decision was made in response to Ceann Nua Limited's application, submitted on 2 October 2023, which sought an exemption from investment obligations in European works for services directed at Italian consumers. AGCOM's decision aligns with the Audiovisual Media Services Directive (EU 2018/1808) and national laws. The exemption was granted because Ceann Nua's reported turnover in Italy for 2022 was below the EUR 5 million threshold set for investment obligations in European works. The exemption is effective from 1 January 2023 to 31 December 2023.
