Description

Announced PIPC approval of 3 companies' self-regulatory code in e-commerce sector (seller tool sector)

On 14 March 2023, the Personal Information Protection Committee (PIPC) announced it approved the three new companies, including One Zero Soft Co., Ltd., Commerce Korea Co., Ltd., and Pimms Co., Ltd, proposed self-regulatory code for platforms in the e-commerce sector. The three companies thereby join eight companies that have already implemented the self-regulatory codes, including Gabia CNS Ltd (Isellers), Dow Technology Ltd. (Sabangnet), Shoplinker CN (formerly Nemo Commerce, Shoplinker), Shoppling Ltd. (Shoppling), Shinsegae I&C Ltd. (Celpic), Seller Hub Ltd. (Seller Hub), Sellmate Ltd. (Sellmate), and Connectwave Ltd. (formerly Play Auto, Floto). The self-regulatory code aims to enhance the safety and protection of personal information in the online shopping environment. The self-regulatory code focuses on strengthening access control, clarifying responsibilities between market operators and sellers, and restricting personal information viewing. Under the self-regulation of the public-private cooperation framework, the private sector drafts self-regulatory codes and conducts self-inspection, and the PIPC investigates compliance with approved self-regulatory codes.
