Italy: Bill on measures on the transparency of contents generated by artificial intelligence including Artificial Intelligence authority governance (SA n. 917)

On 19 October 2023, the Bill on measures on the transparency of contents generated by artificial intelligence including Artificial Intelligence authority governance (SA n. 917), was introduced in the Italian Senate. The Bill would give the Authority for Communications Guarantees (AGCOM) the power to issue regulations and guidelines on the identification and disclosure of artificial intelligence (AI) generated content through labelling and watermarks. Furthermore, the AGCOM would have the power to oversee the implementation and establish mechanisms for reporting violations, with sanctions proportional to the severity of the offence.
