On 14 March 2024, the United States and 54 co-sponsors issued a joint declaration following the submitted proposal for a United Nations General Assembly resolution on Artificial Intelligence (AI). The resolution aims to articulate a shared approach to AI systems and calls on Member States to promote safe, secure, and trustworthy AI systems. The resolution emphasises the importance of respecting, protecting, and promoting human rights and fundamental freedoms throughout the life cycle of artificial intelligence systems while also encouraging the private sector to adhere to applicable international and domestic laws and act in line with the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. Further, the resolution calls on private entities to increase collaboration with the public sector and aid in the development of policymaking and other frameworks.
