Description

Established EU Register of Data Intermediation Services under Data Governance Act (DGA)

On 24 January 2024, the European Union Register of Data Intermediation Services was established as part of the EU Data Governance Act (DGA), creating a framework to promote trust in data sharing between individuals and companies. Data intermediaries act as neutral third parties that connect individuals and companies with data users, ensuring a trusted and secure environment for data sharing. These intermediaries are prohibited from directly using the data for financial gain and must meet strict requirements to maintain neutrality and avoid conflicts of interest. The Act also requires a structural separation between data intermediation services and any other services provided and ensures that commercial terms are not dependent on the use of other services. Any data and metadata obtained may only be used to improve the data intermediation service.
