China: Adopted Special Actions for "Clear Cyberspace" including Content Moderation

On 15 March 2024, the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) implemented a series of "clear" special actions aimed at improving the network ecology. The actions focus on rectifying outstanding issues on the Internet. The special actions include stopping the spread of misinformation related to tourism, bizarre plot videos violating public order, inciting abuse, releasing pornography, and endangering minors' mental health. It further includes improving the business network environment by rectifying false information related to enterprises, rumours, and smear campaigns against businesses and entrepreneurs. Lastly, the actions focus on rectifying self-media platforms that create sensationalised or misleading content for profit, aiming to regulate the dissemination of information and ensure that content creators adhere to standards and guidelines.
