Issued ruling in AGCOM investigation into X's compliance with gambling ads ban

On 12 March 2024, the Italian Communications Regulatory Authority (AGCOM) fined Twitter International Unlimited Company, the owner of the video-sharing platform X2, EUR 1.35 million for violating the ban on gambling advertising, in accordance with Article 9 of the Dignity Decree (Resolution No. 65/24/CONS). AGCOM identified nine violations, each relating to advertising content of sites conducting gambling and betting activities with cash winnings. AGCOM noted that the platform had only hidden seven out of the nine accounts that were flagged at the end of the procedure. As a result, an order was issued to block the remaining two accounts. Furthermore, AGCOM issued an injunction to prevent any future illegal content from being posted by these nine accounts after the notice of objection was made.
