China: Issued MIIT Notice for Apps Infringing User Rights and Interests in March 2024

On 14 March 2024, the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) issued an order listing 62 apps and SDKs that were found to commit user rights violations. In particular, the apps and SDKs were found to breach the Personal Information Protection Law, the Network Security Law, the Telecommunications Regulations and the Regulations on the Protection of Personal Information of Telecommunications and Internet Users. The published list includes "Night Runners Fitness", "Map Compass", "Calculator Muscle HD", "Crazy Crusher", "LianShang Free Reading", and "AdBright SDK" among others. The violations involved issues such as "shake" random jumps of users, "cannot be closed"- information window, and the illegal collection and use of personal information. The MIIT has ordered these apps to rectify their practices according to the regulation.
