On 15 July 2021, the Canadian Government launched a public consultation on a Modern Copyright Framework for Artificial Intelligence and the Internet of Things. The consultation will run until 17 September 2021 and aims to gather information on the interplay between copyright, artificial intelligence (AI), and the internet of things (IoT). The consultation paper outlines three areas of reform: text and data mining (TDM); authorship and ownership of works generated by AI; copyright infringement and liability regarding AI. In regard to IoT, which represents networks of devices equipped with software and sensors that connect and exchange data with other devices using the internet, the paper presents the limitations identified concerning the repair and interoperability of IoT devices.
