Denmark: Issued DPA ruling following investigation regarding Berlingske's use of cookie walls compliance with data protection regulations

Description

Issued DPA ruling following investigation regarding Berlingske's use of cookie walls compliance with data protection regulations

On 14 February 2024, the Danish Data Protection Authority (DPA) issued a ruling on Berlingske's use of cookie walls on its website, berlingske.dk. Berlingske restricted access to embedded content, such as video players and blog posts, unless users consented to the processing of their personal data for statistical and marketing purposes. The DPA found that this practice does not meet the requirements for valid consent under data protection regulations. Consequently, the DPA ordered Berlingske to ensure that the consent obtained from users on its website complies with the data protection regulation's requirements for valid consent.
