Issued US-Turkey Updated Joint Statement on Transitional Approach to Existing Unilateral Measures

On 12 March 2024, the United States and Turkey issued an updated joint statement on a transitional approach to existing unilateral measures before the implementation of Pillar 1. This follows the political compromise reached by the United States, Austria, France, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom on 21 October 2021, which was extended until 30 June 2024. The updated joint statement incorporates the provisions of the original October 21 Joint Statement and the changes described in the Updated Joint Statement to extend the political compromise to 30 June 2024. Under the transitional approach, the US will not enforce trade measures adopted in response to the Turkish Digital Services Tax due to the agreement on the transition from the existing digital services tax to the OECD/G20 Inclusive Framework.
