On 8 March 2024, the Italian Data Protection Authority (DPA) announced that it is opening an investigation into OpenAI's artificial intelligence model Sora. The DPA requested information and clarifications regarding the model's data processing implications if it were to be released in Italy and the wider European Union. In particular, OpenAI was requested to provide information on the algorithm training and types of data collected and used for the training process. Further, the DPA requested information on whether the data used qualifies as personal data and if it contains sensitive personal data. OpenAI has been given 20 days to respond to the DPA's requests.
