Introduced Verifying Kids' Online Privacy Act (HR 7534) including data protection regulation

On 5 March 2024, the Verifying Kids' Online Privacy Act (HR 7534) was introduced to the House of Representatives. The Act would amend the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) to include data protection requirements for minors. In particular, the Act would prohibit companies from selling, transferring, or using any data collected in the age verification process for any purpose other than determining the age. Furthremore, the Act would establish a Children's Online Safety Fund to support Department of Education grants that promote safe and healthy internet use for children. The Fund will be financed by civil penalties obtained by the federal government from violations of COPPA.
