Republic of Korea: Announced investigation into Worldcoin's collection and processing of personal data

On 29 February 2024, the Personal Information Protection Committee of the Republic of Korea initiated an investigation into Worldcoin, a digital payment provider, following complaints about the company's collection and processing of personal data, including iris information. The investigation will focus on Worldcoin's overall collection and processing of sensitive information, the overseas transfer of personal data, and potential violation of the Personal Information Protection Act.
