Adopted ICO Guidance on Employee Data Sharing in Mental Health Crises

On 1 March 2024, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) published new guidance to provide employers with clarity on sharing their employees' personal information during a mental health emergency. The guidance advises on the appropriate circumstances and methods for sharing such information when the employer believes an individual may pose a serious risk to themselves or others due to their mental health. The guidance is part of a broader range of resources produced by the ICO to assist employers in handling personal data in accordance with data protection laws.
