European Union: Issued EU Commission request for information to Meta under DSA regarding options for no ads subscription

Description

Issued EU Commission request for information to Meta under DSA regarding options for no ads subscription

On 1 March 2024, the European Commission sent Meta a request for information under the Digital Services Act (DSA). The Commission requested additional information on Meta's compliance measures concerning Facebook and Instagram's advertising practices, recommender systems, and risk assessments related to the introduction of the "subscription for no ads" option. In addition, the Commission requested further details related to the previous notices issued since October 2023, including measures adopted to address terrorist content, risk management related to civic discourse and election processes, and the protection of minors. Meta is required to provide the requested information by 22 March 2024. The Commission will then assess the next steps, which could include the formal opening of proceedings pursuant to Article 66 of the DSA.
