Introduced Bill amending Patent Law to provide for the ownership of inventions generated autonomously by AI systems (PL 303/2024)

On 20 February 2024, the Bill amending Patent Law to provide for the ownership of inventions generated autonomously by artificial intelligence (AI) systems (PL 303/2024) to the Chamber of Deputies of Brazil. The Bill would amend Article 6 of Patent Law (Law No. 9.279) to recognise inventions created by AI systems. Under the Bill, patents for such inventions can be requested in the name of the AI system that created the invention, which would be considered the inventor and holder of the rights inherent to the invention. The Bill aims to adapt Brazilian legislation to the new technological innovations, specifically with regard to inventions autonomously generated by AI systems.
