Closed Consultation on MNR Draft Rules for Sharing Mapping Data with Foreign Entities

On 21 March 2024, the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) of China closed the consultation on the draft rules outlining the application process for sharing mapping data with foreign entities. The proposed rules, which aim to replace the existing regulations from 2010, streamline the basic requirements for data sharing and detail the application and review process. Applicants must demonstrate the necessity of data sharing without posing a security risk and pass a review by the MNR, and if required, by the military or State Council. The authorities may also impose certain technical security requirements as a condition of approval.
