European Union: Launched EDPB Coordinated Enforcement Action on the implementation of the right of access by controllers

Description

Launched EDPB Coordinated Enforcement Action on the implementation of the right of access by controllers

On 28 February 2024, the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) announced the launch of the 2024 coordinated enforcement framework on the right of access. Under the framework, 31 Data Protection Authorities (DPA) from the European Economic Area will investigate the entities’s compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation right of access obligations. The DPA will receive questionnaires to support fact-finding efforts or determine if a formal investigation is needed. This could involve starting a formal investigation or following up on ongoing ones. Following their investigations, the DPA will provide the EDPB results, which will be analysed to develop guidelines and action recommendations at the national and EU level.
