Issued Statement on results of 29th EU-Japan ICT Policy Dialogue including Cybersecurity Regulation

On 22 February 2024, Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) and the European Commission's Directorate-General for Telecommunications Networks, Content, and Technology issued a joint statement on the outcomes of the 28th EU-Japan ICT Policy meeting held on 20 February 2024. The purpose of this policy dialogue is to promote mutual understanding and improve coordination and cooperation on policies related to the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector. MIC introduced new initiatives under the NOTICE project, explained the status of cyber security human resource development initiatives being undertaken by the ASEAN-Japan Cyber Security Capacity Building Centre (AJCCBC), and discussed efforts to enhance international cooperation on Information Sharing and Analysis Centers (ISAC) involving Japan, the EU, and the United States. The EU provided an update on the preparations for implementing the Cyber Resilience Act and the efforts to combat cyber threats under the Cyber Solidarity Act. The parties stated that they would continue discussions on the security of the Internet of Things (IoT) and support for cybersecurity capacity building in developing countries.
