Adopted Presidential Regulation on Digital Platform Companies' Responsibility to Support Quality Journalism including content moderation authority governance

On 20 February 2024, the Indonesian President issued Presidential Regulation No. 32 of 2024 on the Responsibility of Digital Platform Companies to Support Quality Journalism, including content moderation authority governance. The regulation establishes a committee, which will be composed of the Press Council and operate independently to ensure that digital platform companies comply with their obligations. The committee's responsibilities include monitoring, making recommendations to the Minister, and assisting with arbitration or alternative dispute resolution. The committee would adopt decisions collectively, based on community input, and ensure transparency and independence. The committee will be composed of representatives from the Press Council, the Ministry, and experts in digital platform services, with a maximum membership of 11 people. Members are appointed for a term of 3 years and can be re-elected for a further term, supported by a secretariat headed by the Secretary of the Press Council. The regulation enters into force 6 months following its adoption.
