Implemented CNBS Resolution No.003/2024 Prohibiting Cryptocurrencies and Other Virtual Assets

On 12 February 2024, the National Commission of Banks and Insurance (CNBS) adopted Resolution No.003/2024, which entered into force on the same day. The resolution prohibits supervised institutions from holding, investing, brokering, or operating with cryptocurrencies, crypto-assets, virtual currencies, tokens, or any other similar virtual asset not issued or authorised by the Central Bank of Honduras. Assets that base their yield on variations in cryptocurrencies are also prohibited. The resolution also instructs supervised institutions to include information about the potential risks of using such virtual assets in their Financial Education Programmes.
