Republic of Korea: Adopted Amendments to the Broadcasting and Telecommunications Development Basic Act (Bill no. 2120811)

On 25 January 2024, the Amendments to the Broadcasting and Telecommunications Development Basic Act (Bill no. 2120811) were adopted by the National Assembly. The amendments establish technical standards for charging and data transmission methods of broadcasting and communication equipment, such as mobile and smart devices. The amendment aims to prevent the waste of resources and provide convenience to consumers. Manufacturers of broadcasting and communication equipment must comply with technical standards. The Minister of Science and ICT has the authority to order corrective measures if the installed broadcasting and communication facilities do not comply with these standards. Violations of these orders may result in fines of up to KRW 10 million.
