Description

Introduced KIDS Act establishing content-related regulation

The Kids Internet Design and Safety (KIDS) Act is introduced in the US Senate and House of Representatives on 30 September 2021. It aims to increase the protection of children and teenagers in the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Firstly, the Act regulates harmful design features, banning “auto-play” settings, push alerts and badges and certain interface features, such as “like” buttons and follower counts. Secondly, the act prohibits websites for kids and teens from amplifying inappropriate content and recommending certain types of marketing (influencer marketing and nicotine, tobacco, or alcohol advertisement).
