Announced CNIL investigation into data collection practices of loyalty programs and dematerialised receipts

On 8 February 2024, the French Data Protection Authority (CNIL) announced an investigation into the data collection practices of major retail brands' loyalty programs and the recent dematerialisation of receipts. The investigation will focus on the information shared with consumers and the compliance with the collection of consent before any reuse of data for advertising targeting purposes. This investigation is part of the CNIL priority themes of 2024.
