European Union: Opened Consultation on EU Commission draft Guidelines for Election Integrity under the Digital Services Act (DSA)

On 8 February 2024, the European Commission opened a public consultation on draft Guidelines for Election Integrity under the Digital Services Act (DSA) until 7 March 2024. The guidelines, issued under Article 35 of the DSA, are addressed to very large online platforms and search engines and outline practices and measures that could be adopted to mitigate systemic risks on their platforms that may threaten democratic electoral processes. The draft guidelines include potential mitigation measures related to election-related risks, specific measures linked to generative artificial intelligence, and guidance for planning risk mitigation measures before or after an electoral event.
