On 7 February 2024, the Federal Cabinet of Germany adopted the Strategy for International Digital Policy, submitted by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport. The Strategy serves as a proactive framework for the Federal Government's international digital policy, with a focus on human rights protection and access to a free, uncensored Internet. The Strategy outlines nine guiding principles and emphasises technology partnerships with democratic countries. The principles include but are not limited to safeguarding fundamental rights online, supporting secure international data flows and fortifying a sustainable digital infrastructure. The strategy addresses the potential of digital transformation in addressing global challenges such as climate change. The Strategy was developed through a consultation process involving over a hundred bodies, including civil society initiatives, digital associations, research establishments, and industry representatives.
