Japan: Closed Consultation on Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications inquiry into countering false and misinformation on the Internet

On 11 March 2024, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) closed the public consultation on the initiatives to counter false and misinformation on the Internet. The initiative is aimed at addressing the rise of new technologies and services, such as generative AI and the metaverse, which have expanded and deepened the digital space, leading to the emergence of new issues regarding misinformation. The inquiry aims to identify response policies and specific measures to ensure the soundness of information distribution in the digital space.
