New Zealand: Published Privacy Commissioner Guide on Privacy Impact Assessment

On 1 February 2024, the Privacy Commissioner released a guide on Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA), including information on how organisations engaged in projects involving personal information processing can mitigate risks. The guide includes various tools and documents. The PIA serves as a method for organisations to evaluate and manage privacy risks associated with the collection, use, or sharing of personal information. It ensures projects align with privacy laws, identifies and minimises potential privacy risks such as data breaches, instils confidence in customers or clients regarding information security, and enhances overall information management systems.
