On 30 January 2024, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) opened a consultation on its Enterprise Data Strategy (EDS) until 12 March 2024. The EDS outlines how the ICO will use data to inform and guide its business, regulatory, and strategic priorities. The ICO's data management strategy encompasses five main areas: operational framework and delivery models for data, stringent data governance and quality standards, fostering a data-centric culture and literacy within the organisation, enhancing capabilities and expertise among data professionals, and developing a robust data, analytics, and machine learning technology infrastructure. The strategy involves "Lighthouse Projects" to add value and mitigate risks. The evaluation of these projects is based on their impact, strategic alignment, complexity, and dependencies. The implementation roadmap is phased over several years, with the first year focusing on data governance, the second on enhancing data platform capabilities, and subsequent years aiming to automate compliance and expand AI/ML applications. The consultation is open to businesses, the public sector, civil society, and interested individuals. The purpose of this consultation is to gather views on how the ICO's data-driven activities should be shaped and how the data it holds should be made available in the public interest.
