Description

Introduced Bill to amend Criminal Code regarding internet trash streams (Bill 506240-8)

On 7 December 2023, the Russian State Duma introduced a bill establishing liability for the distribution of internet "trash streams". Internet trash streams refer to individuals profiting from bullying others on the internet. The bill amends the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation to recognise the commission of an intentional crime with a public demonstration, including in the media or on the internet, as an aggravating circumstance. Further, the bill tightens the liability for committing ten serious types of crimes if they were accompanied by trash streaming. Lastly, the bill aims to further punish the commitment of these crimes by depriving the individual of the right to hold certain positions and engage in certain activities.
