On 7 April 2020, the Council of the European Union passed EU regulation 2020/1056 on electronic freight transport information (eFTI) on first reading. The regulation requires Member States to designate a body tasked with the certification of platforms used for the processing of electronic exchanges of regulatory freight transport information (eFTI). This body must be accredited in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 765/2008. The Authority designated to produce such certificates must maintain a public list of eFTI platforms it has certified. The certification shall be pursuant to the requirements in Art 9(1) of the Regulation, concerning the secure handling of data. Platform developers must reapply for certification any time they make changes impacting those requirements, but the Commission is empowered to adopt delegated acts further defining such certification procedures as its renewal, suspension and withdrawal.
