On 19 January 2024, the Secretariat of Economic Reforms of the Ministry of Finance opened a public consultation on the economic and competitive regulation of digital platforms in Brazil. The public consultation remains open until 18 March 2024. Recognising the increased importance of digital platforms for the economy and their influence on the organisation and dynamics of markets, the consultation aims to gather contributions from interested stakeholders on whether changes should be made to the competition defence law, whether new regulation is necessary, which aspects should be subject to regulation, and how to coordinate state action for the management of the issue. The process includes a detailed questionnaire, which seeks to understand the economic and competitive reasons for a possible regulation of these platforms in Brazil.
