Brazil: Implemented Anatel and TSE Technical Cooperation Agreement concerning the handling of disinformation

On 5 December 2023, the Brazilian National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) and the Brazilian Superior Electoral Court (TSE) implemented a Technical Cooperation Agreement concerning the handling of disinformation. The Agreement establishes a fast and direct communication flow between the two agencies by stipulating the use of electronic communication to facilitate the blocking of websites that spread fake news and disinformation in the electoral process. Previous to the agreement, judicial officers would send orders to take down such websites, which resulted in a longer and more complex process. The Agreement further stipulates that both agencies must define agents to coordinate the execution of the agreement and actively engage in further developing the compliance of each party.
