Announced NDPB Investigation into Alleged Data Breaches by Banks, Telecoms, and Other Firms
On 25 February 2023, the Nigeria Data Protection Bureau (NDPB) announced an investigation into alleged data breaches by four banks, a telecommunications firm, consulting firms, and a lending entity. The investigation is set to continue as the NDPB plans to determine compliance with data regulations of other sectors that process data, including sensitive personal data. The investigation is particularly focused on the activities of entities providing loans and organisations without formal business offices. The NDPB will collaborate with several national agencies, including the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) in this investigation.
