On 25 July 2023, provision on lottery type fixed-odds betting, introducing an operational license requirements for betting operators, was introduced to the Brazilian Parliament. The Bill includes strict age verification measures, ensuring that individuals under the age of 18 are not allowed to engage in betting. Bets made by minors are considered null and void, with digital betting operators responsible for clearly communicating age restrictions and related prohibitions through their online platforms and marketing materials. Bets cannot be offered on events involving underage athletes, aiming to prevent the targeting of youth sports activities in digital betting. In their marketing, betting providers must discourage the participation of minors, including by adopting codes of conduct and good practices, specifically avoiding advertising and marketing efforts that target children and adolescents, and instead focusing on an adult audience.
