Russia: Adopted Order including Measures on Content Moderation in Video Games

On 18 December 2023, the Russian President adopted an order including measures requiring the monitoring of the information contained in video games and distributed through playing them. The measures aim to ensure that such information complies with the legislation of the Russian Federation on information, information technologies, and information protection. The Russian government aims to support the domestic video game market, encourage investment in their growth, and enhance the competitiveness of Russian video game developers. Furthermore, the government will involve the public law company "Unified Gambling Regulator" to constantly monitor and account for financial transactions related to the use of video games in the Russian segment of the internet. The measures have to be implemented until 30 April 2024.
