Adopted EDPB recommendations on Consumer Credit Directive

The European Data Protection Supervisor outlined its recommendations on 26 August 2021 on the European Commission's proposal for a Directive on Consumer Credits, issued on 30 June 2021. The proposal's objective is to update the consumer credit rules to address the challenges raised by digitalization and the creation of new credit instruments. The supervisory authority welcomed the proposal and emphasized the need for the legislator to specify the categories of data that may be used in the process of creditworthiness assessment. It also supported the prohibition of the use of social media and health data and recommended the extension of such prohibition to the data protected under Article 9 of the GDPR and to the data regarding browsing behaviour.
