Republic of Korea: Adopted MSIT Metaverse Code of Conduct for Innovation and Self-Regulation

On 26 December 2023, the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) of the Republic of Korea issued the Metaverse Code of Conduct for Innovation and Self-Regulation. The code includes 40 basic provisions and 120 provisions for different entities, outlining the eight practical principles of the Metaverse Ethical Principles. The principles, including authenticity, autonomy, and respect for privacy, aim to guide the behaviour of ecosystem members and serve as specific guidelines for suppliers, users, creators, and stakeholders to address ethical issues in the Metaverse. The code covers areas such as technical measures for a healthy ecosystem, understanding the societal impact of creative works, and respecting the rights of all users.
