China: Adopted MIIT order for rectification of apps infringing user rights and interests

On 15 December 2023, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's Republic of China (MIIT) adopted an order for the rectification of 24 mobile internet applications (APPs) and software development kits (SDKs) found to infringe on user rights and interests. The identified APPs and SDKs, spanning sectors such as practical tools, local life, and online games, were inspected by third-party testing agencies. The order mandates that these APPs and SDKs comply with relevant regulations, including the Personal Information Protection Law, Network Security Law, and Telecommunications and Internet Users Personal Information Protection Regulations. Failure to implement the necessary rectifications may result in further action by the MIIT in accordance with laws and regulations.
